You really need a Power of Attorney!

A lasting power of attorney is a legal document in which you appoint another person or persons to manage your affairs, if you have lost the capacity to do so - and this doesn’t just affect the elderly.

There are two different types of Lasting power of attorney (LPA),
one enables your appointed attorney(s) to deal with your property and financial affairs - Property and Finance LPA
and the other enables your appointed attorney to deal with your health and welfare issues - Health and Welfare LPA.

What happens if I do not have a Lasting Power of Attorney?
Close friends and family (including your spouse) do not automatically have the right to take over.
The  Office of the Public Guardian will appoint a Deputy to act on your behalf. This process takes time and is expensive, which may mean that bills cannot be paid and affairs cannot be looked after.
Old age is the most common cause of mental incapacity, but incapacity may exist in other circumstances and is not dependent upon age or other `foreseeable' circumstances.

A lasting power of attorney is just as important as a will!
